Well, it has been 13 days since JB wasn't there to catch me and I haven't been healing up as quickly as I had hoped. I bit the bullet and saw an ankle/foot specialist yesterday and got some good news and some bad news.
The bad news is that my foot is actually broken. I fractured the cuboid bone and ripped a few ligaments.
The good news is that the orthopedic surgeon was a golfer and understood what it meant to me to try and play. He asked how much money I had on the line and if I needed to win it to pay the bills. When I clarified the importance of the event was not monetary but supreme bragging rights for a year among friends and family he smiled a wry smile. He said he had something for me that would probably allow me to play, albeit poorly and at my opponents amusement, but not worsen the injury.
Enter Das Boot. No, it is not a German sub. But Das Boot amazingly allows me to use the foot with minimal pain. Imagine a golf shoe on the right foot and a ski boot on the left. Slow to walk, but totally doable. I think.
I am going to play in a scramble tomorrow with John, JB and Rando to make sure I can actually swing and navigate around a golf course. If I can do it, I will schedule a lesson for early next week so I can learn how to hit on a permanent uphill lie. If I can't, I will find a replacement.
Peace
